On May 7, 2013, a teenage driver chose not to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic, nearly killing Marine E. The collision resulted in Marine E being thrown from his motorcycle. When Beaufort County EMS arrived at the scene, they found Marine E lying motionless in the road. The ambulance drove the motorcycle wreck victim to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a femur fracture (i.e. broken thigh bone) and avulsion.
Marine E’s leg injuries necessitated transfer to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). The trauma team at MUSC performed surgery, then discharged Marine E to home care.
In the weeks following surgery, Marine E experienced increased pain and swelling in his left leg. On May 28, 2013 - with a fever of 102 degrees – Marine E was once again admitted to MUSC where he was diagnosed with a wound infection to his left thigh. MUSC’s surgical team performed a second operation on the left thigh to clear the infection.
Marine E ultimately recovered from his injuries, and was able to continue serving our country. He also obtained a confidential settlement with the help and guidance of our firm.
