In July 2011, a police officer suffered a dog bite while conducting a raid on a suspected drug dealer's home. Though the raid was a success, the officer had to undergo hospital treatment and follow up care due to his injuries. Unsurprisingly, the dog's owner did not have homeowner's insurance. If it had not been for workers' comp, the officer would have been forced to shoulder the burden of the medical expenses. No one wants to get hurt on the job, but when it happens, there are laws in place to protect South Carolina's workers.
